IN ORBIT AROUND THE FUTURE

Innovation is always the key to technological development. That’s why at Beat we are promoting innovation in practice, paving the way for those who are already envisioning the future.

Eight students from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) traveled with the support of Beat to Texas, United States to take part in the finals of the CanSat Competition 2019. This is the White Noise student project, the first-ever Greek team that made it to the final phase of the competition.

The Greek team White Noise won the 4th place among 93 teams from all over the world.

The team members are students of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the School of Mechanical Engineering of the NTUA.

The White Noise Space Students Group was founded in 2017. Under the auspices of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), its 16 members participate in space engineering competitions, both in Greece and abroad, determined by their will to apply their academic knowledge to real constructions.

The annual student CanSat competition is organized by the American Astronautical Society (AAS) with the support of important institutions, including NASA.

During this, student groups from universities and colleges across the world are invited to design, build and launch a CanSat; a simulation of a real satellite, integrated within the volume and shape of a can. The participation process is demanding and consists of several stages. The satellites that make it to the final round, are launched with a rocket and, while landing, perform a predetermined mission.

The 2019 mission explored the use of auto-gyro descent control of a science payload when released from the launch vehicle. The CanSat consisted of two parts, the science payload and the container to protect the science payload as it is deployed from the rocket. The thorough study and careful design of the satellite led White Noise to conquer the 4th position.

The study, design and construction of the White Noise microsatellite for CanSat 2019 lasted about 10 months.

White Noise’s vision is to establish itself as an aerospace team of the NTUA and extend its scientific action to research projects that will enhance the overall aerospace sector in Greece.

Beat opens up streets to new talented people, who aim far and design the future, giving yet another boost to technological innovation.

Congratulations!
