Change for both drivers and passengers

Since the very first day of operation of the BEAT app, we have worked hard to meet our users’ demand for taxi services 24 hours a day. You have supported us and we are grateful for that. That is why we will be direct, transparent, and honest with you.

For more than 11 years we have been absorbing a cost so that you can find quality services with the known safety and reliability that the BEAT app has been identified with. Despite the fact that we are planning awesome things for the future, unfortunately, it is impossible to continue with the same operating model as we do today.

As the demand for taxi services is constantly increasing, reaching a total of 61% compared to 2019, it is difficult for drivers to cope, but also to meet the ever-increasing demand. The high cost of operating a taxi in combination with one of the lowest taxi fares in Europe and the conscious choice of BEAT to pay taxes to the Greek state and not abroad dictate that a change is necessary.

Starting on June 16, 2022, there will be a pre-booking fee of € 1.92 – € 2 for all taxi calls via the BEAT app. This change will boost our drivers’ income and allow us to serve more customers. On our part, we will continue to monitor the market closely, constantly evaluating this decision and its results, so that we can make any adjustments in a timely manner if deemed necessary or required by any new regulatory decisions on the cost of taxi services.

What is the pre-booking fee?

What is the pre-booking fee?

The pre-booking fee is a legitimate charge according to the legislation, which can range from € 0 to € 5.65 (decision no. ΥΜΕ Α54501 / 5518 / 28.1.2014) and corresponds to the amount you have to pay to use a taxi call service. It is already used by most telephone or digital taxi providers in Greece.

The driver. At BEAT, we decided to support our driver partners with their daily operating expenses and offer them more revenue for city trips.

Why is there a need to impose this charge now?

Why is there a need to impose this charge now?

Prior to the foundation of the BEAT app, the fee of calling a taxi was a given. For 11 years we have managed to absorb this fee, so that the taxi call service is completely free for our passengers. Unfortunately, this can no longer happen. The taxi services fare in Greece is one of the lowest in Europe, without any increases for nearly a decade. At the same time, the huge increase in fuel costs and the high cost of obtaining a taxi license have significantly reduced drivers’ income, pushing almost 2,000 vehicles off the market due to the high operating costs, despite the excessive passenger demand. Taxi operations in big urban centers are so unprofitable that a significant number of drivers choose to work almost exclusively at ports and airports in order to reduce their costs and prioritize high-value rides. All the above, cumulatively, significantly reduce the possibility of service for city residents, resulting in high waiting times for passengers. With this move we aim to motivate drivers, offering them higher ride revenues, so that we can serve as many passengers as possible!

Does that mean I will find taxis more easily from now on?

Does that mean I will find taxis more easily from now on?

In BEAT you will find the largest fleet of collaborating drivers in Greece, while every week dozens of new drivers register on our platform. In addition to the significant number of incentives and benefits already offered to all drivers who choose to work with us, we constantly make sure to offer them additional benefits. Financial incentives, a loyalty program with social benefits, discount agreements for the maintenance and purchase of their vehicles. To the above, we are now adding the collection of the pre-booking fee, so that they have a greater profit but also you, as a customer, are served more easily. This way we expect to ensure a higher level of service so that you too can find a taxi more easily. However, it is important to note that there will always be the factor of peak hours with very high demand, when the number of drivers available will be limited.

Why do you apply the rental cost instead of reducing the commission and absorbing this cost yourself?

Why do you apply the rental cost instead of reducing the commission and absorbing this cost yourself?

We tried this in the past and it was not enough. You already know this, because you have not been able to find a taxi in 2019, nor in 2021, nor this year. Besides, you must not forget that the BEAT’s commission, is not only covering our company’s operating costs but is also returned to the drivers as a financial incentive, in order to serve passengers at peak hours.

I have heard that the BEAT commision is the most expensive. Is it true?

I have heard that the BEAT commision is the most expensive. Is it true?

Unlike our competitors, BEAT has a legal entity in Greece, pays taxes and VAT in Greece, while constantly creating new job opportunities in our country. This burdens its supply with the corresponding taxation, making it appear fictitiously more expensive. But it is our choice. We support the Greek economy and pay taxes here, like all Greek residents.

Does the BEAT commission increase due to the pre-booking fee?

Does the BEAT commission increase due to the pre-booking fee?

No. BEAT has had the same stable commission rate in recent years.

How will the pre-booking fee show on my receipt?

How will the pre-booking fee show on my receipt?

On your receipt, you will be able to see this fee either as a “pre-booking fee” or as an “extra charge”. This depends on the type of taximeter of each driver.

Other applications do not charge a pre-booking fee, why do you do it?

Other applications do not charge a pre-booking fee, why do you do it?

Lately, you have noticed delays in finding a taxi, on all applications. We believe that this small customer charge will significantly help your service, as you will find taxis in the city more easily. At the same time, it will partially contribute in balancing the huge increase in fuel prices and other operating costs that the driver has to deal with. It is a measure with which the company will upgrade the quality of services it offers by supporting the taxi industry in Greece as a whole.

Why does the amount of the pre-rental cost differ from € 1.92 or € 2?

Why does the amount of the pre-rental cost differ from € 1.92 or € 2?

This depends on the type of taximeter that each vehicle has. There are predefined options that each driver can choose from, so you may encounter this variation. The legitimate pre-booking fee in Greece can range from € 0 to € 5.65.

Is it true that BEAT has lost drivers who choose not to use it?

Is it true that BEAT has lost drivers who choose not to use it?

No. At a time when many of our users were complaining that they could not find a taxi, BEAT was setting a historical record. Demand has just skyrocketed. There are more registered BEAT drivers than ever before. More than 8,000. However, the increase in demand exceeds 61% compared to 2019 and 64% compared to 2021. Plus, tourism in Athens has doubled in the last decade. Therefore, there is a significant part of rides that can not be served. This is a problem that affects all platforms and goes beyond BEAT.
